Beast Master Hunter

Enhance your Primal Companion

A Beast Master forms a mystical bond with a special animal, drawing on primal magic and a deep connection to the natural world.

Beast Master Hunter Class Features

As a Beast Master Hunter, you gain the following class features when you reach the specified Hunter levels.

Level 3: Dire Tamer

Additionally to the normal primal companion options every Hunter can tame, you may attempt to tame a beast within 60 feet of you that can see and hear you, the beast can be no larger than Large with a challenge rating of 1 or lower. Taming a beast requires the expenditure of 50 gp worth of rare herbs and fine food and is a process that often takes many hours to days of work.

Certain effects apply to your tamed beast:

  • Your beast companion has stats determined in part by your level, using your proficiency bonus rather than its own.
  • Your companions hit dice increase with your Hunter level, increasing it’s Hit Points accordingly.
  • Whenever you gain an Ability Score Improvement class feature, your companion’s abilities also improve. Your companion can increase one ability score of your choice by 2, or it can increase two ability scores of your choice by 1. Your companion can’t increase an ability score above 20 using this feature.
  • The beast loses its Multiattack action, if it has one.

Level 7: Exceptional Training

When you take a Bonus Action to command your Primal Companion beast to take an action, you can also command it to take the Dash, Disengage, Dodge, or Help action using its Bonus Action.

In addition, whenever it hits with an attack roll and deals damage, it can deal your choice of Force damage or its normal damage type.

Level 11: Bestial Fury

When you command your Primal Companion beast to take the Beast’s Strike action, the beast can use it twice.

In addition, the first time each turn it hits a creature under the effect of your Hunter’s Mark spell, the beast deals extra Force damage equal to the bonus damage of that spell.

Level 15: Share Spells

When you cast a spell targeting yourself, you can also affect your Primal Companion beast with the spell if the beast is within 30 feet of you.
